<p>The old Bourne High School is a historic school building at 85 Old Cotuit Road in Bourne, Massachusetts. Built in 1905 and enlarged in 1937, it is a prominent local example of Colonial Revival architecture. Most recently used by the town as the Kempton J. Coady Jr. Junior High School, it was by the local Waldorf school, and is now being converted to residences. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The former Bourne High School building stands in Bourne Village on the south side of the Cape Cod Canal on the west side of Cotuit Road between Sandwich and Trowbridge Roads. The building consists of two large brick blocks joined by a wide two-story hyphen. The main block, two stories in height and covered by a hip roof, is oriented to face east, toward Sandwich Road and the canal. It has a seven-bay facade, with a project center section topped by a pedimented gable. This section houses classrooms. The hyphen joins this to a gymnasium and auditorium wing that is one tall story in height, with round-arch windows and an entrance vestibule with round-arch panels containing large sash windows on either side of a pedimented entry.</p><br>
<p>The main portion of the building was constructed in 1905 to a design by the Boston architectural firm of Parker and Thomas. The building was significantly damaged by fire in 1934, but was repaired and additional facilities, including the auditorium wing, were added. The proper also benefited at that time from improvements funded through the federal Works Progress Administration jobs program. The building served as Bourne&#39;s high school until 1960, and then served as the Kempton J. Coady, Jr., Junior High School until 1990. In 1992 it was taken over by the local Waldorf school.</p><br>
<p>The Malek vineyard is a historical house in Isfahan, Iran. The house has been taken as tax from the people in the era of Nader Shah and was for a long time a part of assets of a rich man in the city. During the reign of Naser al-Din Shah Qajar it was confiscated by the king. The Naser al-Din Shahs successors declared it as a public asset and a part of national treasury. In the Mohammad Ali Shahs era, a Hussainiya was built in the garden and its administration was handed over to an isfahanian businessman called Malek ot-Tojar. Parts of the vineyard and its building has been destroyed during the expansion and development of the city. The remaining parts include a central yard and a dining room. Presently Malek vineyard is used as Hussainia and a permit is needed for visiting.</p><br>
<p>Bourne Town Hall is the town hall of Bourne, Massachusetts. It is located at 24 Perry Road in the Buzzards Bay section of the town. The two story Classical Revival brick building was built in 1914 to a design by architect James Purdon, and is the town&#39;s first and only purpose-built town hall. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The town of Bourne is divided into two sections by the Cape Cod Canal. Its town hall stands on the east side of Perry Avenue, a spur road running south from Main Street to the canal. It is set back from the street, behind a circular green surrounded by a drive with parking. At the center of the green is the 1914 Soldiers and Sailors Memorial, built to commemorate the town&#39;s military participants in the American Civil War.</p><br>
<p>The town hall consists of a two story main block, which is flanked on either side by single story wings, and in the rear by a projecting two story ell. The flanking wings are the result of a 1937 addition, and the rear ell, originally one story, was raised to two in the 1970s. The facade of the main block is five bays wide, with a center entrance. Each of the three middle bays is set behind flat brick pilasters supporting a semicircular, wood springing arch, and contains an original recessed, semicircular, multilight window at the second level, and a rectangular wood plaque above a ground-floor opening.</p><br>
<p>The building was the first purpose-built town hall for Bourne, which was incorporated in 1884. Prior to its construction, town offices were kept first in a rented private residence, and then in the Jonathan Bourne Public Library.</p><br>
<p>The Bradford Center Meetinghouse is a historic meetinghouse at 18 Rowe Mountain Road in Bradford, New Hampshire. The Greek Revival church was built in 1838, in response to state legislation mandating the separation of church and state. The towns first meetinghouse, built in 1796, had been used for both religious and civic purposes; it would be dismantled and moved to a location nearer the railroad tracks, where it now serves as the Bradford Town Hall. The new building is a typical rural New England church, a wood frame building resting on a granite foundation. The front facade of the church features a pair of doorways, each flanked by sidelight windows and pilasters supporting an entablature. A single 12/8 window is centered above the doorways, while the side walls each have three 20/20 windows. The tower has a belfry supported by eight columns, and still houses the original 1838 bell. Both the interior and exterior have experienced only relatively modest changes since the buildings construction.</p><br>
<p>The meetinghouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.</p><br>
<p>The John Weir House is a historic house located at 715 N. Main St. in Edwardsville, Illinois. Built in 1836, the house is the second-oldest in Edwardsville after the Benjamin Stephenson House. The two-and-one-half story brick house is designed in the Federal style. The front facade of the house has five bays with a central entrance; the entrance is surrounded by a fan light and an arched lintel. The houses gable roof features three dormers on either side, chimneys at either end, and a brick cornice on the rear edge. Dr. John Weir, the owner of the house, ran his doctors office in the house with his son Edward until the former&#39;s death in 1878. In 1963, the Madison County Historical Society purchased the house and converted it to a museum.</p><br>
<p>The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 9, 1983.</p><br>
<p>Phong Châu was the capital city of Văn Lang  for the most part of the Hồng Bàng period, from the Third Dynasty to the Eighteenth Dynasty of Hùng kings.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The historical site was the third capital of Văn Lang, following the previous capital Nghĩa Lĩnh. Its ruins are located near Bạch Hạc District, Việt Trì, Phú Thọ Province, and also the name of Phong Châu district, Phú Thọ province. The 15th century book Đại Việt sử ký toàn thư (Đại Việt Complete History) gave more information about Phong Châu.</p><br>
<p>According to legend, the site was where Âu Cơ, wife of King Lạc Long Quân, gave birth to their children, commemorated at the Hùng Temple in modern Phong Châu district, Phú Thọ province. For this reason, the history of Phú Thọ province is closely linked to that of the country itself.</p><br>
<p>Its eventual downfall was due to the weakening of the Hùng king, following the rise of foreign powers. In 258 BC, the Âu Việt tribes under the leadership of Thục Phán sacked Phong Châu during their invasion of Văn Lang. With the end of the Hùng King Epoch, the seat of government moved to Cổ Loa.</p><br>
<p>The Madison County Sheriffs House and Jail is a historic house and jail building located at 210 N. Main St. in Edwardsville, Illinois. Built in 1869 and opened in 1871, the building is the oldest Madison County government building in Edwardsville, the county seat. The building consists of a three-story sheriffs house and an adjacent cell block; the cell block was expanded in 1904 to provide space for female prisoners. The sheriffs house is designed in the Second Empire style; it is one of two examples of the style in Edwardsville and the only one which has maintained its historical appearance. The buildings design features a mansard roof, two dormers on both the front and rear sides, and a bracketed wooden cornice.</p><br>
<p>The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 31, 1980.</p><br>
<p>The Dr. J.D. Watts House is a historic house located at 205 West Choctaw Street in Dumas, Arkansas. It is a well preserved local example of a transitional Queen Anne/Colonial Revival residence.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The 1-1/2 story timber-framed house was built around 1909 by a Mr. Williams, and was purchased by Dr. James David Watts in 1918, when he moved to the area. It has a hip roof, with cross-gable dormers on the sides and rear, and a large projecting gable-end dormer centered on the front facade. This dormer features a Palladian window, with the surrounding walls covered in diamond-cut and fish-scale shingles. The gable itself is decorated with jigsaw-cut boards. There is a single story porch, supported by Tuscan columns, that wraps around both sides of the house. The front entry is flanked by sidelight windows and pilasters supporting an entablature.</p><br>
<p>The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 9, 1994.</p><br>
<p>The Henry Dubin House  is an architecturally-significant house in Highland Park, Illinois, United States.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Henry Dubin was an architect who studied at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, graduating in 1915. He then worked for four years under Holabird & Roche. He then left the firm to start his own, Dubin & Eisenberg. In 1928, Dubin left the United States to study at Bauhaus. He returned to Highland Park, Illinois after a year of study. Dubin designed a house for himself in 1929 and completed it a year later. The house kept him occupied during the first few years of the Great Depression, once commissioned ceased due to the economic times.</p><br>
<p>The house was one of the first International Style buildings in the town. It was nicknamed the "Battledeck House" because the steel plate of the roof and floor resembled the construction of a ship. It was completely fireproof: the exterior was constructed of clinker brick and steel.</p><br>
<p>On September 29, 1982, the house was recognized by the National Park Service with a listing on the National Register of Historic Places.</p><br>
<p>Limestone Run is a tributary of the West Branch Susquehanna River in Montour County and Northumberland County, in Pennsylvania, in the United States. It is 8.8 mi long and flows through Limestone Township in Montour County and Turbot Township and Milton in Northumberland County. The watershed has an area of 11.6 square miles. Slightly under 2,500,000 lb of sediment flow through the stream annually. The stream&#39;s watershed is in the ridge and valley physiographic province.</p><br>
<p>The watershed of Limestone Run is mostly agricultural. However, other land uses in the streams watershed include forests, developed land, wetlands, and coal mines. Several mills in Milton and Turbot Township historically drew their power from Limestone Run. The Pennsylvania Canal and Limestone Run Aqueduct also crossed the stream in Milton. Major floods of the stream include one in August 1817 and one in June 1972. The streams watershed is designated as a Warmwater Fishery and a Migratory Fishery.</p><br>
<h2>Course</h2><br>
<p>Limestone Run begins at the Seven Springs Farm in Limestone Township, Montour County. It exits Limestone Township and enters the southern part of Turbot Township, Northumberland County. The stream continues west, parting from Limestone Ridge and crossing under Interstate 80 and then Pennsylvania Route 147 before entering the borough of Milton. It reaches its confluence with the West Branch Susquehanna River on the other side of Milton, near Milton State Park.</p><br>
<p>Limestone Run joins the West Branch Susquehanna River 11.19 mi upriver of its mouth.</p><br>
<h3>Tributaries</h3><br>
<p>Limestone Run has no named tributaries. However, it has a number of unnamed tributaries. Nine of these enter the stream from the left and two of them enter it from the right.</p><br>
<h2>Hydrology and climate</h2><br>
<p>Limestone Run is designated as an impaired waterbody by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. The cause of the impairment is siltation and the source is agriculture. No part of Limestone Run or its tributaries attains stream standards set by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.</p><br>
<p>The annual load of sediment in Limestone Run is 3,352,600 lb. Of this 2,478,400 lb per year comes from croplands and 687,000 lb per year comes from stream banks. Another 71,800 lb per year comes from transitional land, 58,200 lb comes from land used for hay or pastures, 28,600 lb comes from low-intensity development, and 19,600 lb comes from forests. An annual sediment load of 4,600 lb comes from high intensity development, 4,400 lb comes from coal mines, and no sediment is contributed by wetlands.</p><br>
<p>The average annual rainfall in the Limestone Run watershed between 2005 and 2013 was 37.7 in. The average annual runoff in this time period was 2.2 in.</p><br>
<h2>Geography and geology</h2><br>
<p>The elevation near the mouth of Limestone Run is 440 ft above sea level. The elevation of the stream&#39;s source is between 620 and above sea level.</p><br>
<p>The elevation in the Limestone Run watershed ranges from under 480 ft above sea level to more than 760 ft above sea level. The source is approximately 130 ft higher than the mouth, making the stream move relatively slowly. The entire watershed is in the ridge and valley geographic region. The rocks in the watershed are 60% carbonate rocks and 40% shale.</p><br>
<p>Limestone Run&#39;s floodplain in Milton is located between Race Street and Center Street. This area is mostly uninhabited due to flooding concerns.</p><br>
<p>The historian J.J. John wrote that Limestone Run was "a stream of relatively greater geographical importance than its volume would indicate".</p><br>
<h2>Watershed</h2><br>
<p>The watershed of Limestone Run has an area of 11.6 square miles. The mouth of the stream is in the United States Geological Survey quadrangle of Milton. However, its source is in the quadrangle of Washingtonville. The village of California is located near the headwaters of the stream. Pennsylvania Route 254 is also in the stream&#39;s vicinity.</p><br>
<p>A total of 72.7 percent of the watershed of Limestone Run is agricultural land, 13.4 percent is forest, 11.8 percent is low-intensity development, and 1.5 percent is high-intensity development. Additionally, 0.4 percent of the watershed consists of wetlands and 0.2 percent consists of coal mines. There are 19.3 mi of streams in the watershed.</p><br>
<p>In addition to croplands and pastures, feedlots, barnyards, and area of manure stacking line the banks of Limestone Run in some areas.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Limestone Run was entered into the Geographic Names Information System on August 2, 1979. Its identifier in the Geographic Names Information System is 1179364.</p><br>
<p>Marcus Huling was one of the first people to settle in what is now Milton, building a house there in 1772. He also established a tavern on Limestone Run. In 1774, a person living in Buffalo Township, Union County purchased several hundred acres along the stream.</p><br>
<p>In 1791, Andrew Straub built a mill on Limestone Run. It was the first manufacturing industry in Milton. It was destroyed in 1815 to make way for the Bakers Grist Mill. The Bakers Grist Mill was a gristmill on Limestone Run (and powered by the stream) at South Front Street in Milton. The latter mill was built in 1815 by George Eckert, Jr. It was destroyed when Limestone Run flooded on August 9, 1817, due to heavy rainfall at the stream&#39;s headwaters, A carding mill and sickle factory were built on the mouth of Limestone Run some time before 1817. This mill and factory was damaged in the 1817 flood of the stream. Additionally, Moses and Samuel Teas owned a distilling business on Limestone Run. A stone mill was built at the mouth of the stream some time before 1838. William Follmer also owned a mill in the southeastern part of Turbot Township. In the 1840s, there were several flour mills in Milton that were powered by the stream.</p><br>
<p>Prior to the advent of railroads, the area along Limestone Run was mostly home to small industries. When Limestone Run flooded in 1817, at least one bridge was destroyed, in addition to the Baker&#39;s Grist Mill. After the flood, the Pennsylvania legislature contributed $5000 to the construction of a post bridge over the stream. In June 1972, the stream flooded due to Hurricane Agnes, partially contributing to a significant alteration of the appearance of Milton. The Pennsylvania Canal and Limestone Run Aqueduct, which is on Limestone Run in Milton, was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 19, 1978.</p><br>
<h2>Biology</h2><br>
<p>The drainage basin of Limestone Run is designated as a Warmwater Fishery and a Migratory Fishery.</p><br>
<p>There is little or no riparian buffering along Limestone Run.</p><br>
<p>The Benjamin Godfrey Memorial Chapel is a historic chapel located on the campus of Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey, Illinois, named for school and town founder Benjamin Godfrey. The chapel was built in 1854 to serve the Church of Christ, a church formed by three Christian denominations at the Monticello Female Seminary. The Greek Revival chapel has a raised temple front with six Doric columns supporting a pediment; a Gothic steeple rises above the entrance. The Historic American Buildings Survey documented the church in 1934 and named it one of the six most representative New England-style churches built outside of New England. Monticello Female Seminary, later known as Monticello College, used the chapel for daily religious services, convocation and commencement ceremonies, and student productions and performances. In 1971, Monticello College closed, and Lewis and Clark Community College took over its campus.</p><br>
<p>The chapel was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 10, 1979.</p><br>
<p>The Knoxville Downtown YMCA, also known as the Lindsay Young Downtown YMCA, is a building in Knoxville, Tennessee, that is listed on the USA National Register of Historic Places. It was designed by the Barber & McMurry architecture firm. Completed in 1929, it is the third oldest YMCA facility in the United States.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The Knoxville YMCA was organized by the Second Presbyterian Church in 1854, disbanded during the Civil War, and reinstated in 1890. The property was originally owned by the McGhee family and was deeded to the YMCA on 28 June 1928. The Knoxville Downtown YMCA was built in 1929.</p><br>
<p>The building was later renamed in honor of Lindsay Young, local attorney and philanthropist who was a major donor to the Knoxville YMCA.</p><br>
<p>On 25 April 2008, a comprehensive renovation was completed to the property at a cost of approximately $2.5 million, including the conversion and sale of former hotel rooms into condominium residences. The proceeds of the sale of the condominiums and private donations were used to fund the renovations.</p><br>
<h2>Design</h2><br>
<p>The interior of the building furnishings and layout are consistent with Spanish Colonial Revival design, featuring arched porticoes, tile flooring, diamond muntined windows, and plaster-covered walls. Knox Heritage describes the building as a combination of architectural revival styles, a strength of its designer Charles I. Barber, but classifies the building as a whole as Mediterranean Revival, with more significant design features of "brick laid in Flemish bond, the water table, corbelled string course, and interior courtyard and fourth-story loggias."</p><br>
<h2>YMCA facility</h2><br>
<p>The YMCA facility is equipped with an indoor running track, lap pool, basketball court, racketball and handball courts, locker rooms for men and women, saunas and steam rooms, exercise studios, and a variety of exercise equipment.</p><br>
<p>The Hampton&#39;s Ford Stage Stop and Barn was established at a ford on the Bear River near Collinston, Utah by Benjamin Y. Hampton and William S. Godbe in 1853. The pair operated a ferry until 1859 when they built a bridge, replacing it in 1866. At about the same time they built a house, which also served as a hotel, and a barn. The bridge was again replaced in 1892, and superseded by a bridge on Utah State Route 30.</p><br>
<p>The main building is a two-story red-tinted limestone structure. The hotel originally boasted ten rooms and an indoor privy. There were eight rooms on the ground floor, including a living area, dining room, kitchen and bedrooms.</p><br>
<p>The wood barn is located across the road, in substantially the same configuration as it was originally built.</p><br>
<p>Hampton&#39;s Ford Stage Stop was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 12, 1971.</p><br>
<p>Little Blue Lake is a water-filled doline located near Mount Schank in South Australia. It is notable locally as a swimming hole and nationally as a cave diving site. It is managed by the District Council of Grant and has been developed as a recreational and tourism venue.</p><br>
<h2>Naming</h2><br>
<p>The sinkhole&#39;s name is attributed to the property of its water to turn blue in colour on an annual basis in a similar manner to the Blue Lake. However in more recent times the sinkhole generally remains green in colour throughout most of the year. This is believed by some to be due to groundwater pollution from agricultural fertilizers increasing the nutrient levels. The lake is also known as Baby Blue and is referenced in caving literature by its Cave Exploration Group of South Australia (CEGSA) Inc. identification number, 5L9.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The lake is located on the north side of Mount Salt Road, Mount Schank about 3.5 km west of the Riddoch Highway, the main road between Mount Gambier and Port MacDonnell.</p><br>
<p>The lake has a diameter of about 40 m, cliffs approaching a height of about 8 m above water level and a maximum depth of about 47 m. Access to the water’s edge is via an artificial cutting in the south side of the sinkhole.</p><br>
<p>The bottom of the lake is at an average depth of about 36 m with the shallowest point at a depth of about 25 m, being the top of the rubble pile resulting from the excavation of the cutting. An undercut ledge reaches a maximum depth of approximately 45 m along the full extent of both the south (i.e. under Mount Salt Road) and the west sides of the sinkhole’s bottom.</p><br>
<p>The underwater visibility is normally poor, but can at times improve below a depth of about 20 m. A notable feature of the lake is the accumulation of rubbish dumped in the lake over a period of several decades including a 1966 Morris 1100, a bowser, traffic signs and ’witches hats’.</p><br>
<h2>Geological origins</h2><br>
<p>The Little Blue Lake is one of a number of similar landforms occurring in the area to the south of the dormant volcano in Mount Gambier including the area around the dormant volcano at Mount Schank. These cenotes are similar in form as they all have collapse dolines with circular plans, cliffs, lakes filled to the water table, large rubble cones on their floors and clustered together in several groups along in the flat coastal plain composed of a Miocene limestone known as Gambier Limestone. These cenotes differ from other karst landforms in the south east of South Australia by their relative depth (i.e. as deep as 125 m in one cenote), the absence of any underwater phreatic passages and a different water chemistry. It is theorised that these cenotes were formed by the collapse of large underground water-filled chambers following the lowering of sea levels at the most recent Glacial Maximum about 20,000 years ago. The chambers themselves are likely to have been formed by groundwater acidified by gaseous Carbon Dioxide (CO2) rising up through fractures from the magma chambers during the volcanic eruptions occurring during the Pleistocene and the Holocene rather than by the usual acidification process involving the absorption of atmospheric CO2 by water prior to entering the water table. The cenotes then filled with freshwater as the sea level started to rise at about 8,000 years ago. The presence of stromatolites in at least eight cenotes including the Little Blue Lake is suggested as being an indicator of the recent formation of these landforms.</p><br>
<h2>Exploration</h2><br>
<p>Exploration of the lake&#39;s underwater environment commenced in the 1950s. The lake’s submerged extent was surveyed by Lewis and Stace in 1980 and by the Cave Divers Association of Australia (CDAA) during the 1990s.</p><br>
<h2>Present day</h2><br>
<p>The lake is a popular venue for swimming and cave diving. The District Council of Grant installed stairs and a floating pontoon in 2002 to improve the lake’s amenity for both residents and visitors after a review of public safety. A parking area also exists on the lake&#39;s east side. Access for cave diving is limited to holders of the CDAA Deep Cavern grade.</p><br>
<p>The Logan Temple Barn was built in Logan, Utah in 1896-97 to house the animals belonging to Mormons working at or attending the nearby Logan Temple. It is unique as one of only two stone barns in the Cache Valley, where wood-frame barns prevailed. The temple barn fell into disuse after automobiles began to bring worshipers to the temple and was sold in 1919, becoming an automobile repair shop. The owner at this time was Dr. Thomas B. Budge, who owned the Utah-Idaho Hospital across the street, later the William Budge Memorial Hospital. During the 1980s a conversion to apartment use was proposed but not pursued.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The Logan Temple Barn is a 36 ft by 36 ft square two-story stone structure with a pyramidal wood single roof. A pigeon-house cupola was added to the top by its first private owner. The front and rear elevations have double doors to the ground floor, and there is an original doorway on the east side. Two more openings on the east and west sides were added in 1919 using concrete lintels in lieu of the original openings&#39; stone arches and lintels. There is a hayloft door on the eastern side and several old and new window openings on all sides. The interior is dominated by a central bearing wall supporting the wood framed floor and roof.</p><br>
<p>The Logan Temple Barn was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 19, 1985.</p><br>
<p>The Anglican Church of the Holy Trinity in Newton St Loe within the English county of Somerset is a Grade II* listed building.</p><br>
<p>A church has stood on the site, close to Newton St Loe Castle and Newton Park, since the 11th century, however the current stone building was constructed in the 14th with the tower being added in the 15th. It was restored in 1857. The bell tower has a clock face with only one hand.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>A church stood on the site during the 11th century and was mentioned in the Domesday Book. The current building is from the 14th century. The tower was added in the 15th century.</p><br>
<p>In 1857 the church was restored and the north aisle was added by Charles Edward Davis who later became the Bath City Architect. The work was funded by William Gore-Langton.</p><br>
<p>The parish is part of the benefice of Saltford with Corston and Newton St Loe within the archdeaconry of Bath.</p><br>
<h2>Architecture</h2><br>
<p>The stone building has north and south aisles, nave, chancel, west tower and organ chamber covered with a slate roof.</p><br>
<p>It has a three-stage west tower, supported by diagonal buttresses. On the tower is a clock face with a single hand. It contains six bells these were recast from the original five by Thomas Bilbie of the Bilbie family of Chew Stoke in 1741. The tower is separated from the nave by a wooden screen erected in 1909.</p><br>
<h2>Interior</h2><br>
<p>Most of the interior fittings, including the font, pews, pulpit and screen are from the 1857 restoration; however some of the monuments are considerably older. These include the marble tomb of Joseph Langton who died in 1701. A cast-iron railing surrounds the vault which also has an inscription on marble commemorating his seven children who all died prematurely.</p><br>
<p>The organ was installed in 1879.</p><br>
<p>The Bradford Town Hall is located on West Main Street in Bradford, New Hampshire. The building has an unusual history. The town built a meetinghouse in 1797 at a different location , which was used for both civic and religious functions. In the 1860s, when the state mandated the separation of church and state, the new meetinghouse was built for religious use, and the old one was disassembled and its parts used to build a new town hall. The framing of the building thus has Federal style elements, while the exterior was given a Greek Revival styling popular at that time. An early 20th century addition added Colonial Revival details that were sympathetic to the earlier styling.</p><br>

<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Rutherfurd Hall was the estate of husband and wife Winthrop Chanler Rutherfurd and Alice Morton Rutherfurd. After Alices&#39; death from appendicitis, Rutherfurd married his second wife Lucy Mercer Rutherfurd.</p><br>
<p>Construction began in 1902, and included a mansion, gardens, boathouse, swimming beach, hydroelectric powerhouse, 9-hole golf course, and kennels.</p><br>
<p>Rutherfurd Hall is one of the last extant large country estates in New Jersey constructed at the turn of the 20th century, and represents the country life movement which began in America following the Civil War, when the wealthy constructed large estates in rustic settings near major cities.</p><br>
<p>Franklin Delano Roosevelt visited the estate in the 1930s to meet with Lucy Rutherfurd.</p><br>
<p>In 1948, the property was donated to the Congregation of the Daughters of Divine Charity, who used it as a convalescent facility for retired nuns.</p><br>
<p>An additional wing was added to the mansion in 1959.</p><br>
<p>The passage of the 2004 Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act, which placed the property in the highly development-restricted Preservation Area, dashed hopes by the religious order to sell the property to speculative development interests and they brought suit against the State of New Jersey. The Highlands Act was upheld in court, yet this contentious action eventually yielded to the more appropriate land use that exists today in which the historic character of the former estate and the integrity of the Highlands natural resources are maintained under the current ownership and the adaptive reuse of the property.</p><br>
<p>The property was sold to the State of New Jersey and the Allamuchy Township School District in 2007.</p><br>
<p>In 2013, the State of New Jersey awarded $50,000 to the school district for a preservation project at Rutherfurd Hall.</p><br>
<h2>Design</h2><br>
<p>The mansion was designed by Whitney Warren, and is a Tudor Revival brick and stone structure occupying three floors, with approximately 38 rooms. It has been expanded to an additional 50 rooms. The grounds were designed by the Olmsted Brothers, with the intent of creating a picturesque landscape of "well-kept, simple neatness."</p><br>

<p>Rutherfurd Hall is owned and managed by the Allamuchy Township School District, and is used as a community education and cultural facility. The General Information phone number is (909)-852-1894. It is also rented for private functions including beautiful weddings utilizing the grand interior and breathtaking landscape. The Executive Director of Rutherfurd Hall is Laurie Rapisardi. The Rutherfurd Hall Foundation supports projects at the site.</p><br>
<p>The property is located next to Allamuchy Mountain State Park.</p><br>
<p>The Helper Commercial District is a historic district comprising the center of Helper, Utah. The district is bounded by Janet Street to the north and Locust Street to the south, and by First West Street to the west and the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad  yards to the east. It comprises 110 buildings, 98 of which are considered contributing structures. Typical buildings are one to two stories tall in a variety of styles, mostly built in red brick.The district includes a number of modest one-story residences, built by the railroad and mining companies in the manner of a company town. The district represents Helper&#39;s development as the commercial center of the local coal-mining industry, and as a railroad service center.</p><br>
<p>The most significant structures in the district are the Helper City Hall and the Civic Auditorium. Other important contributing structures include the Railroad Chapel and the Catholic church. Several sites are associated with Japanese, Greek, South Slav and northern Italian immigration to the area. Many structures are associated with the D&RGW, including the train station. During the 1930s the town center was extensively altered by Works Progress Administration forces, who built retaining walls and channelized the Price River, filling in the bed in the area that is now the northern part of the district.</p><br>
<p>The Helper Commercial District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 24, 1979. The Helper Post Office is individually listed on the National Register within the district.</p><br>
<p>Wooster Lake is in Lake County, Illinois, United States. It is located near Illinois Route 134 and Wilson Road, predominantly in unincorporated Ingleside, northeast of the Village of Volo, northwest of the Village of Round Lake, and southeast of the Village of Fox Lake.</p><br>
<h2>Characteristics</h2><br>
<p>The Lakes Management Unit of the Lake County Health Department provided a 2003 Summary of Wooster Lake describing Wooster as a glacially-formed, non-public (private) lake encompassing approximately 98.9 acres with a shoreline of 2.03 miles. It is reported to have a 29.8 maximum depth and a 16.3 average depth, the 4th deepest (on average) of the inland, private lakes in Lake County, Illinois. It is part of the Fish Lake drainage of the Fox River watershed. The Fish Lake Drain flows from Fish Lake into Fischer Lake, then into Wooster. Water leaves Wooster by a small creek along the northern shoreline and flows into Duck Lake, eventually draining into the Fox River.</p><br>
<p>Though the private lake has significant depth, in February 2005, Lakes Management - a division of the Lake County Health Department - provided a slide deck presentation highlighting by month the total phosphorus (TP) levels recorded as spilling into Wooster Lake. During significant rain events (such as in June 2004), 20.5 lb of phosphorus per day were recorded as spilling in at just this one measured location.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>As reported by the Lake County Historical Museum&#39;s Diana Dretske, Jacob L. Beilhart founded the communitarian group called the Spirit Fruit Society on the shores of Wooster Lake, after purchasing a 90-acre tract known as the Dahlziel Farm in 1905. About a dozen established members of the Spirit Fruit Society moved with Beilhart to Illinois, along with a few new members. Over the next two years the society built a spacious house and later a large barn entirely by hand. The 2½-story residence had 32 rooms, a full basement, and modern (for the time) conveniences. The dining room accommodated up to 100 people. The society continued to live peacefully in Ingleside for several years. They provided for themselves from what came to be known as the "Spirit Fruit Farm", opened the farm and temple to visitors, and produced a newsletter. Beilhart continued to speak to groups in Chicago promoting the ideals of the society.</p><br>
<p>In November 1908, Beilhart became ill from acute appendicitis. Despite attention from a surgeon who performed an appendectomy, he developed peritonitis and died three days later. In keeping with the societys beliefs in simplicity, he was buried in a plain coffin in an unmarked grave overlooking Wooster Lake. None of the buildings remain, having been covered by a housing development, although Beilharts grave remains in a brush-obscured corner of the tract.</p><br>
<p>As of 2017, in dispute are recorded association declarations, recorded lake property titles, and a recorded village ordinance filed at the Lake County Recorder of Deeds Office, which claim Wooster Lake&#39;s properties are restricted, creating disputes over the legal use of the lake.</p><br>
<p>The Concord Historic District encompasses the least altered portion of the historic heart of Concord, New Hampshire. The 25 acre district, located just north of the modern commercial and civic heart of the city, includes the city&#39;s oldest surviving house, the site of its first religious meetinghouse, and the Pierce Manse, a historic house museum that was home to President Franklin Pierce during his rise to national prominence. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.</p><br>
<p>The original heart of Concord was platted out in 1726, on a terrace above the floodplains on the western banks of the Merrimack River. The lots, about 1.5 acre in size, were arrayed in the vicinity of Horseshoe Pond, and it is the earliest of these that make up the district. The area is characterized by a uniformity of setting, despite a diversity in architectural style, in part because most of the buildings are similarly-sized dwellings set on equal-sized lots. Larger buildings, including a church, school, and professional offices, stand on larger lots.</p><br>
<p>The oldest surviving house, that of Reverend Timothy Walker, was built in 1735. It was also the first house in the area to be garrisoned (fortified and surrounded by a palisade) against Native attacks. The district was also home to Concord&#39;s first meeting house (no longer extant). The residential structures in the district represent the variety of architectural styles popular during the 19th century, including the fine Greek Revival Pierce Manse, a Victorian Gothic cottage at 278 North Main Street, and the late Gothic brick house at 266 North Main Street. There are only a few buildings in the district built after the 1920s, among them the Lutheran church.</p><br>
<p>The Maple Avenue/Maple Lane Historic District is a historic area of Highland Park, Illinois, United States. The twelve-building district features four houses designed by George W. Maher and one designed by John S. Van Bergen.</p><br>
<h2>Architecture</h2><br>
<p>The 9 acre district features four homes designed by George W. Maher. Three of these houses also feature landscaping by Jens Jensen. The H. Scarborough House was completed around 1907 and is typical of Maher&#39;s designs with broad massings and wide overhangs. The D. W. Lamborn House is a basic rectangular design, but is otherwise a typical Maher design. The R. Smith House has arches over the front bay and a broad, overhanging roof. The three-story Prairie School house is on a 2 acre wooded lot. It was extensively remodeled in 1972, but the exterior was preserved. The Samuel H. Bingham House is the lone Maher design without a Jensen landscape. It is unusual for a Maher design with a shingled second story exterior. It also lacks canted walls and segmented arches.</p><br>
<p>The Herman Pomper House, a John S. Van Bergen design, is also found in the district. This house, completed in 1925, features brown wood trim on stucco. The cruciform house is typical of Prairie School design. Henry Dubin design an International Style house at 2350 Maple Lane in 1949. Like his other house, Dubins dwelling is steel frame. Six other houses contribute to the districts historic and architectural theme.</p><br>
<p>The district was recognized by the National Park Service with a listing on the National Register of Historic Places on September 29, 1982.</p><br>
<p>The Christian Hill Historic District is a historic district and neighborhood in Alton, Illinois. The district is located west of Altons central business district on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. A primarily residential area, the district includes 274 buildings, of which 266 are contributing buildings to its historic character. Development in the district began in the 1830s; in addition to residential development, the Illinois State Prison was constructed in the neighborhood in 1833. While Altons economy declined during the Panic of 1837, development in the district continued through the early 20th century, and Christian Hill became a desirable neighborhood for Alton residents. The hill acquired its name from, Saints Peter and Paul Church, a Catholic church built in the 1850s which was the cathedral of the Diocese of Alton until the diocese moved to Springfield.</p><br>
<p>The historic district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 22, 1978.</p><br>
<p>Union Army </p><br>
<p>The Alton Military Prison was an Illinois prison located in Alton, Illinois. Opening as Illinois State Prison in 1833 Alton was the first state penitentiary in Illinois which originally held 24 cells. By 1857, when it was replaced by a new state prison in Joliet, the prison housed 256 cells. In 1862, the USA government reopened the prison to house Confederate prisoners of war during the Civil War. The prison housed over 11,000 prisoners during the war. Deaths at the prison were more common than at other Union prisons, and prisoners faced harsh conditions and regular outbreaks of diseases such as smallpox and rubella. 1,534 Confederate soldiers and many Union soldiers and civilians are known to have died at the prison.</p><br>
<p>The prison closed in 1865 and was later demolished; all that remains of the structure is a section of a wall. The site of the prison was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 31, 1974. It is also part of the Christian Hill Historic District, which was listed on the National Register in 1978.</p><br>
<p>Briar Creek is a tributary of the Susquehanna River in Columbia County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It is 7.77 mi in length. The stream has a watershed area of 33.0 square miles. It flows through Briar Creek Township and the borough of Briar Creek. The area near the creek was originally inhabited by the Lenni Lenape and the Shawanese. European settlers arrived in the 1770s.</p><br>
<p>Briar Creek has two named tributaries: West Branch Briar Creek and East Branch Briar Creek. The discharge of Briar Creek ranges from 0.06 to 50 cubic feet per second. The water temperature of the creek ranges from 32 &deg;F to 80.96 &deg;F. The rock in the watershed mostly consists of sandstone, siltstone, mudstone, limestone, and shale.</p><br>
<p>There are Pennsylvania State Game Lands in the watershed, as well as a lake known as the Briar Creek Reservoir. In the lake, the most common species of fish is yellow perch.</p><br>
<h2>Course</h2><br>
<p>Briar Creek begins where Knob Mountain, Huntington Mountain, and Lee Mountain meet in western Briar Creek Township. It flows east for a short distance before turning south through a gap in Lee Mountain, briefly descending quite steeply. The course levels out as it leaves the mountain behind and begins flowing through a valley after a short distance. It flows under Pennsylvania Route 93, leaving the valley behind. Soon afterwards, the stream picks up the tributary West Branch Briar Creek and turns southeast. After some distance, it enters the community of Briar Creek and picks up the tributary East Branch Briar Creek. The stream then turns southwest and reaches its confluence with the Susquehanna River near French Island.</p><br>
<h3>Tributaries</h3><br>
<p>Briar Creek has two named tributaries: East Branch Briar Creek and West Branch Briar Creek. East Branch Briar Creek joins Briar Creek 1.02 mi upstream of its mouth. It watershed has an area of 15.10 square miles. West Branch Briar Creek joins Briar Creek 2.74 mi upstream of its mouth. Its watershed has an area of 12.10 square miles.</p><br>
<h2>Hydrology</h2><br>
<p>The Briar Creek watershed falls into two of Pennsylvania&#39;s ten climate divisions: Division 1 (Pocono Mountains) and Division 5 (Central Susquehanna).</p><br>
<p>The discharge of Briar Creek about two miles (three kilometers) downstream of its headwaters ranges from 0.06 to 39.1 cubic feet per second (cfs), with a median of 0.685 cfs. Just upstream of West Branch Briar Creeks confluence with the creek, the discharge ranges from 0.63 to 22.1 cfs, with a median of 4.03 cfs. Near the mouth of the creek, the discharge ranges from 4.14 to 50 cfs. There is a median discharge of 18.5 cfs at this point. On East Branch Briar Creek about two miles from its headwaters, the discharge ranges from 0.4 to 10.425 with a median discharge of 1.385 cfs. Near Briar Creek Reservoir, East Branch Briar Creeks discharge has a minimum of 0.54 cfs, a maximum of 11.5 cfs, and a median of 4.645 cfs. On West Branch Briar Creek, the discharge ranges from 0.67 to 31.1 cfs, with a median of 3.2 cfs.</p><br>
<p>The water temperature of Briar Creek near its source ranges from 35.96 to 64.94 F, with a median of 51.44 &deg;F. This is the highest minimum temperature of any studied location in the watershed. Near West Branch Briar Creeks confluence with Briar Creek, the latter creek has a temperature range of 32 to 67.46 F and a median of 49.28 &deg;F. This is the lowest minimum temperature of any studied location in the drainage basin. Near its mouth, the temperature ranges from 32.18 to 80.96 F. The median temperature is 57.56 &deg;F. On West Branch Briar Creek, the temperature is a minimum of 35.6 &deg;F, a median of 57.38 &deg;F, and a maximum of 71.6 &deg;F. Two miles downstream of East Branch Briar Creeks headwaters, the median temperature is 49.73 &deg;F and the range is 32.18 to 71.42 F. Near Briar Creek Reservoir, the water temperature has a minimum of 32.18 &deg;F, a maximum of 78.62 &deg;F, and a median of 50.18 &deg;F.</p><br>
<p>Briar Creek is slightly alkaline on average. The pH of the creek near its mouth ranges from 7.16 to 8.21, with a median of 7.7. Upstream of West Branch Briar Creek, the creeks pH ranges from 6.15 to 7.69. The median is 7.45. Near the creeks headwaters, the pH ranges from 5.52 to 7.47 and has a median of 6.67. West Branch Briar Creek has a minimum pH of 6.96, a median pH of 7.87, and a maximum pH of 8.31. Not far from its headwaters, East Branch Briar Creek has a pH range of 6.78 to 7.21 and a median pH of 6.92. Near Briar Creek Reservoir, it has a pH range of 7.14 to 8.73 and a median pH of 7.565.</p><br>
<p>The level of total dissolved solids in Briar Creek near its source has a range of 50 to 161 parts per million (ppm) and a median of 96 ppm. Upstream of West Branch Briar Creek, the range is 12 to 98 ppm and the median is 38 ppm. Near Briar Creek&#39;s source, the median is 14 ppm, the minimum is 10 ppm, and the maximum is 89 ppm. The concentration of dissolved solids in the upper reaches of East Branch Briar Creek ranges from parts per 25 to 113 ppm, with a median of 35.5 ppm. Immediately upstream of Briar Creek Reservoir, the concentration ranges from parts per 34 to 86 ppm, with a median of 43.5 ppm.</p><br>
<h2>Geology and geography</h2><br>
<p>The watershed of Briar Creek is located in the ridge and valley physiographic region. The top of Lee Mountain forms a drainage divide between the creek&#39;s watershed and another watershed. Several points along Briar Creek and its tributaries have erode with ease or moderate ease. The infiltration capacity of these points is mostly moderate to high.</p><br>
<p>In the very northern reaches of the Briar Creek watershed, the bedrock is made up of sandstone. South of the sandstone layer, there is a section of the watershed where the bedrock is mudstone. In the central part of the watershed, the bedrock is siltstone. In the southern part of the watershed, the bedrock is mostly shale, including the part of the watershed in Berwick, which it has bedrock of calcerous shale. A small area north of Berwick has limestone bedrock.</p><br>
<p>There are a number of types of soil in the Briar Creek watershed. One of these is the Holly Series, which is an acidic silt loam. Places in the watershed where the Holly Series is found include Briar Creek about one mile upstream of the mouth of West Branch Briar Creek, West Branch Briar Creek about 1.5 mi upstream of its mouth, and near Briar Creek Reservoir. Another soil series in the drainage basin is the Buchanan Series, an acidic stony loam. Places it is found include Briar Creek about two miles downstream of its headwaters. The Albrights Series, a silt loam with gravel, is also found in the watershed, in such places as East Branch Briar Creek two miles downstream of its headwaters. The Chenango Series is a silt loam that occurs, among other places, in the southeastern and southern corners of the watershed. The Watson Series and the Middlebury Series (sandy and silty loams, respectively) are found in parts of the central part of the Briar Creek watershed. The Zipp Series is a somewhat acidic silt loam that occurs in places such as the Cabin Run watershed.</p><br>
<p>Briar Creek is between 25 ft and 30 ft wide. Its tributary West Branch Briar Creek is about 15 ft wide.</p><br>
<h2>Watershed</h2><br>
<p>The Briar Creek watershed has an area of 33.0 square miles. It is located in Columbia County and Luzerne County. There are six communities that are fully or partly within the watershed: Briar Creek, Briar Creek Township, North Centre Township, Orange Township, and Berwick in Columbia County and Salem Township in Luzerne County. A total of 1.04 square miles are located in Briar Creek, 16.48 are located in Briar Creek Township, 12.04 are located in North Centre Township, 0.22 are located in Orange Township, 1.24 are in Berwick, and 1.94 are in Salem Township. As compared to other watersheds with the same size and land use, the Briar Creek watershed has been given a B rating by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. According to the Briar Creek Coldwater Conservation Plan, this indicates that "residents in the watershed are working to improve and/or conserve resources in the area".</p><br>
<p>A total of 8678 acres, or 41% of the Briar Creek watershed is forested land. Much of this is on Knob Mountain or belongs to the Pennsylvania State Game Lands Number 55. A total of 7210 acres, or 34% of the watershed, is farmland and 1143 acres, or 6% of the watershed, is urban land. Most of this is in the southeastern part of the watershed. A total of 3984 acres, or 19% of the land in the watershed, is non-agricultural grassland.</p><br>
<p>There are approximately 44.23 mi of streams in the Briar Creek watershed. The watershed is made up of seven smaller watersheds, or sub-watersheds.</p><br>
<h2>History and etymology</h2><br>
<p>Briar Creek was historically known as the "Kawanishoning" to the area&#39;s Native Americans. This name was a Lenni Lenape word for "sweet briar". However, the creek was also referred to as "Kawanishoning Creek" by white soldiers and explorers during the time of the American Revolutionary War. By 1770, some maps began referring to the creek as Bryar Creek, which became the more common name by the end of the eighteenth century and remained so as late as 1840. However, the spelling gradually changed to Brier Creek and then Briar Creek.</p><br>
<p>Up to approximately 1770, the area around Briar Creek was inhabited by the Lenni Lenape Indians. They built villages on the banks of the creek.</p><br>
<p>In the beginning of the 1800s, a number of mills were built on tributaries of the creek. A number of other industries were established in the watershed in the early 1800s, including a sawmill, a woolen mill, an iron furnace, and a tannery. In the second half of the 1800s, railroads began to be built in the watershed. Heavy industries and fisheries also began to appear in the area around this time.</p><br>
<p>By 1911, two dams had been constructed on Glen Brook (a subtributary of Briar Creek) in Briar Creek Township two miles north of Berwick. In 1911, the first dam, known as Number One, had a capacity of 15 million gallons. The second dam, known as Number Two, had a capacity of 7.5 million gallons. In 1911, a third dam was under construction several hundred feet downstream of the two aforementioned dams. It was intended to have a capacity of 23.8 million gallons.</p><br>
<p>The Briar Creek Watershed Association is a watershed association for Briar Creek. It was formed in 2006.</p><br>
<h2>Biology</h2><br>
<p>Pennsylvania State Game Lands#55 are in the Briar Creek watershed. The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has designated the Briar Creek watershed as "place of ecological importance".</p><br>
<p>More than 90 species of birds breed within the Briar Creek watershed. These include several species of ducks, flycatchers, herons, plovers, rails, and swallows, as well as one species of kingfisher and one species of crane. Bald eagles, sandhill cranes, and several species of waterfowl have been observed on Briar Creek Reservoir. Mammals living in the watershed include minks, muskrats, and short-tailed shrews, and the endangered Indiana bat. Fish, damselflies, mayflies, and other macroinvertebrates also inhabit the watershed. A total of 28 species of fish were observed by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission in the watershed in 2006. Earlier, 34 species were observed.</p><br>
<p>In April 2010, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission performed a survey of the fish species residing in Briar Creek Reservoir. The most common fish observed were yellow perch (645 specimens), brown bullhead (322 specimens), golden shiner (319 specimens), white crappie (216 specimens), hatchery trout (153 specimens), and bluegill (121 specimens). The largest fish observed were common carp, of which two specimens between 23 in and 25 in were observed. The smallest fish were pumpkinseed, of which 12 specimens between two and four inches (five and ten centimeters) were observed. Minnows also live in West Branch Briar Creek.</p><br>
<h2>Recreation</h2><br>
<p>Briar Creek Reservoir is located in the Briar Creek watershed, on East Branch Briar Creek. It was originally constructed to control floods, but most recreational activities in the watershed take place at this lake. These include fishing, picnicking, and weddings. There are also Pennsylvania State Game Lands in the watershed.</p><br>
<p>The Dougherty Mission House is a house located at 18459 Mission Road in Peninsula Township, Michigan. It was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1956 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011. The house was certainly one of the first frame buildings constructed in Grand Traverse County, and is thought to be the first post and beam house constructed in Michigan&#39;s lower peninsula north of Grand Rapids.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>In 1839, the Presbyterian Board of Missions sent Reverend Peter Dougherty to the Grand Traverse area. He originally chose a site at what is now Elk Rapids, Michigan, and constructed a log church there. However, in May 1839, Chief Ahgosa of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, asked Dougherty to move to what is now Old Mission, Michigan. There, Dougherty established a small settlement, moving the mission church from the Elk Rapids site and adding a school and cabins. In 1840, Dougherty married Maria Higgins of Princeton, New Jersey, and the couple returned to Michigan to live at the Old Mission site. Peter and Maria Dougherty eventually had nine children born in Michigan</p><br>
<p>In 1842, Dougherty realized he needed a more permanent residence for his family, and constructed the house that is currently on this site. and is thought to be the first post and beam house constructed in Michigan&#39;s lower peninsula north of Grand Rapids.</p><br>
<p>By 1850, the village around the mission included 40 log homes, in addition to the church and school. However, in that same year, the treaty with the Native Americans was renegotiated, resulting in the local populace purchasing land across the bay near what is now Omena, Michigan. In 1852, Dougherty moved his mission across the bay to Omena, establishing a "New Mission" at the site. The house at the old mission remained standing, unused, until 1861, when Dougherty sold it to Solon Rushmore. Rushmore farmed the surrounding land until his death in 1870. His cousin Duranty Rushmore then purchased the property. Duranty Rushmore continued farming, but soon realized that he could capitalize on the new tourist market opening in the area. He turned Dougherty&#39;s mission house into an inn, called the "Rushmore House." The Rushmores at some point in the late 19th century added the rear kitchen addition to the house, and added the front wraparound porch near the turn of the century.</p><br>
<p>Duranty Rushmore died in 1894, passing the property along to his son William, who with his wife Minnie continued to farm and run the inn. However, on William&#39;s death in 1916, the property passed to his son Maurice who lived in New Jersey, and although Minnie Rushmore continued to summer there, it was apparently no longer used as an inn. The house stayed in the hands of the Rushmore family for nearly 100 years. At some point, a replica of the original 1839 mission church was built nearby, and in 1956, the home and mission were placed on the Michigan Historic Sites Register.</p><br>
<p>In 1961, Maurice Rushmore sold the Dougherty house to Virginia Larson, who lived nearby at the time. Larson used the house for storage, but with the intention of eventually turning it into a museum. After her death in 2004, her heirs, David and Dan Larson, granted an option to purchase the home and its 15 surrounding acres to the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy. In 2006, the house was purchased by Peninsula Township, and restoration work began. Nearby structures, such as the Rushmore-era ice house and outhouse, were restored, and the roof was replaced. As of 2014, it is administered by the Peter Dougherty Society.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The Dougherty Mission House is a two-story symmetrical frame structure on a fieldstone foundation with a side-gable roof and centered front gable. The sides are clad with clapboard siding and the roof with cedar shingles. There are attached porches on three sides of the house, and a kitchen addition at the rear that was likely added in the late 19th century. The front facade has a full-width porch with a center entrance. Four windows line the first floor around the entrance, placed nearly regularly, save for one offset window. The second floor has a center sash window located in the gable, flanked by two smaller eyebrow windows.</p><br>
<p>One side of the house has six windows in the main section: three on the first floor, two on the second, and one in the attic. The other side lacks the attic window. There are additional windows in the rear and in the kitchen addition.</p><br>
<p>The interior of the house contains 1160 square feet of space on each floor, plus an additional 370 square feet in the kitchen addition. The first floor contains eight rooms: a front entryway, parlor, and master bedroom, plus a second bedroom, two smaller rooms, a small bathroom, and the kitchen in the rear. A stairway leads to the second floor, where six bedrooms open off a central hall.</p><br>
<p>Also on the grounds are an original detached kitchen, an outhouse, and an ice house. The nearby replica mission church is a single-room front-gable log building.</p><br>
<p>The Corner Store and Office, also known as the Frogmore Emporium, Macdonald, Wilkins, and Company Store and Mark D. Batchelder Office, is a historic general store, residence and, eventually, office building located on Saint Helena Island near Frogmore, Beaufort County, South Carolina. Primarily built as a house, it was built about 1877, and is a two-story, wood frame building with a gable roof. It features a two-story wraparound porch. The adjacent one-story house was built about 1905. The store sold provisions to the islanders, most of whom were African American, and became one of the major centers of commercial and social activity on St. Helena. The home and businesses in the building were owned by Cameron Thomas and his relatives for most of the 20th century. The family lived in the back and upstairs portion of the house, while the front included a general store and liquor store, with the small house added on used as a residence for relatives. The store also had the only gas pump on the island for many years.</p><br>
<p>It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.</p><br>
<p>Sandy Grenaa Beach on Djursland&#39;s east coast – in eastern Jutland, Denmark, at the entrance to the Baltic Sea – starts at Grenaa Marina, and runs south for 6 km. The last 1.5 km are seldom visited, ending at the cape of Havknude. Here the beach turns into a stony shoreline, that continues 30 km down the east coast of the peninsula of Djursland, facing the Kattegat between Denmark and Sweden. This coastline south of Grenaa Beach is renowned amongst anglers.</p><br>
<h2>Recreational</h2><br>
<p>There are a lot of summer rentals close to the town of Grenaa and Grenaa Beach, and the beach is a recreational asset for these houses and for the inhabitants of Grenaa. Facing east away from the predominant westerly winds, and protected from the Atlantic, increases the amount of good beech days. The summer temperature in Denmark is seldom unpleasntly hot. With a band of dunes the beach has sheltered spots along the coast if its to chilly to stay on the open beach. Apart from Danes, Grenaa beach is mostly visited by Swedes, Norwegians and Germans. It is not overcrowded, as Denmark, as well as the rest of Scandinavia, is significantly less populated than the neighbouring central European countries. The uncrowded nature is also due to many other beach-alternatives on Denmarks long coastline. On the peninsula, Djursland, where Grenaa Beach lies, there are 21 other sandy beaches. In 2006 Grenaa Beach was nominated as one of the 2 best beaches in Denmark, by The Danish Tourist Board. Many Danes have a good working knowledge of English. Katholm Strandvej runs parallel to the major part of the beach, with free parking and access to the shoreline without long walks. This, and a coastline facing east, with no tide or current to speak of under normal summer conditions, makes the beach child friendly and safe. The water is tested and certified as clean and non-polluted, under the Danish "Blue Flag" system.</p><br>

<p>The Old Stone Church Site encompasses a location in Leesburg, Virginia that was the site of property of the Methodist church from c. 1770 to 1900. On May 11, 1766, Nicholas Minor, a founder of the new town of Leesburg, deeded a half acre of property to Robert Hamilton, a Methodist convert, for ″four pounds current money of Virginia, for no other use but for a church or meeting house and grave yard.″ The site is the earliest known Methodist-owned church site in America. On September 28, 1768, the deed was delivered to members of the Methodist society. The deed, recorded in Deed Book L at pages 451-453, may be seen today in the Clerk&#39;s office of the Loudoun Courthouse.</p><br>
<p>Soon thereafter a soft stone building was erected. It was replaced in the late 1780s by a larger structure, which was further enlarged in the early 1800s. The mixed-race congregation split in the late 1840s over the issue of slavery, and a legal battle began for control over the building. In 1897 a Loudoun County court ordered the property to be sold and the proceeds to be divided between the two congregations. The church was demolished c. 1900 and its building materials used elsewhere in the city. The site was purchased in 1961 by the Virginia Conference of the Methodist Church as a historic landmark.</p><br>
<p>The site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.</p><br>
<p>Located in Chesterton, Indiana, the Chesterton Residential Historic District is located a block south of the business district, along Second Street from Indiana Ave. to Lincoln Ave. and on Indiana Ave. from Second to Third Streets. The area began with the Martin Young House construction about 1870. The Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana describes as one of the best Italianate structures remaining in northwest Indiana. Most of the structures date from the early twentieth century. St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, built in 1876, and burned ca. 2000.</p><br>

<p>Deer Isle is an island in Hancock County, Maine, United States. There are two communities on the island, Deer Isle and Stonington. It is on the eastern side of Penobscot Bay, connected by road to the Maine mainland through Little Deer Isle. Its only vehicular connection to the mainland is State Route 15 over Deer Isle Bridge.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>According to the United States Census Bureau, the town of Deer Isle has a total area of 123.67 square miles, of which 29.72 square miles is land and 93.95 square miles is water. The town is separated from the mainland by Eggemoggin Reach and may be reached by car via Deer Isle Bridge. The town includes other nearby islands, including Little Deer Isle.</p><br>
<p>According to the United States Census Bureau, the town of Stonington has a total area of 37.84 square miles, of which 9.81 square miles is land and 28.03 square miles is water. Located on the southern end of Deer Isle, Stonington is situated in Penobscot Bay and the Gulf of Maine, part of the Atlantic Ocean. Stonington is the terminus of Maine State Route 15, which passes through the town of Deer Isle and across the Deer Isle Bridge to the mainland.</p><br>
<p>The Henry J. Crippen House is a historic house at 189-191 North Main Street in Concord, New Hampshire. The three story brick Second Empire house was built as a duplex by Henry J. Crippen, a prominent local financier, in c. 1879. The front facade is symmetrically arranged, with a pair of entry doors under a portico supported by wooden piers with recessed panel bases and brackets beneath the dentiled cornice. The doors and windows are all topped by segmented arches with cast iron keystones. The cornice of the roof is studded with paired heavy brackets and equally heavy dentil molding. Above the mansard portion of the roof is another band of molding. The paired entries are flanked on either side by projecting bays that rise a full two stories, and are topped in the mansard layer by dormers with projecting hoods. The south elevation of the house is distinguished from the north by the presence of a two story half octagonal tower projection, in front of which is a side porch with ornately decorated balustrade and supports; the north facade has a simple two story projecting bay. The building was renovated in 1982 for use as professional offices.</p><br>
<p>The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.</p><br>
<p>The Lewis Downing Jr. House is a historic house at 33 Pleasant Street in Concord, New Hampshire. This 2.5 story wood frame Italianate house was built in 1851 for Lewis Downing Jr., president of the Abbot-Downing Company, a nationally known manufacturer of coaches, and is the only surviving building associated with that business. The house is basically rectangular, with cross gables sections projecting from the sides. Its notable features include the paired brackets in the eaves, the chimneys, and the side porch, which retains some of its original styling despite 20th century repairs and replacements. A late-19th century garage at the rear of the property also has decorative touches such as bracketed eaves, and a side entrance framed by arched latticework.</p><br>
<p>The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.</p><br>
<p>Dripsey Castle Bridge is situated 3.3 km north-east of Coachford village, 1.34 km north-west of Dripsey village, and is depicted on both the 1841 and 1901 surveyed OS maps. It is located at the meeting point of Carrignamuck and Meeshal townlands, and lies within the civil parish of Magourney and catholic parish of Aghabullogue.</p><br>
<p>In the Ordnance Survey name book (c. 1840), it is referred to as a small stone bridge, one-eight of a mile to the south-west of Hayfield House. The National Inventory of Architectural Heritage describes it as a triple-arch humpback road bridge built c. 1780. It has rubble stone walls, concrete capping to the parapet, arches with dressed stone voussoirs, and v-shaped cutwaters on its east and west elevations. The bridge&#39;s name is said to derive from nearby Dripsey Castle, Carrignamuck.</p><br>
<p>Adjoining the bridge is the entrance to Dripsey Castle, a gate lodge and an ornamental tower.</p><br>
<p>Many surviving bridges in mid-Cork are originally constructed of stone, arched in shape, and late eighteenth or early nineteenth century in date. Typical features include semi-circular arches and pointed breakwaters. Earlier bridges are often narrower, although some were widened at a later stage.</p><br>
<p>The Potomac Mills was a mill complex located along the Potomac River roughly.5 mi downriver of Shepherdstown. Built in 1826, the complex was originally used as a gristmill. In 1829, the mill began producing cement for the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal&#39;s construction. The factory continued to produce cement after the canal opened, and it shipped its product along the canal to other cities. Flooding and drought conditions in the 1880s led the mill to reduce its operations, and by 1901 the mill closed permanently.</p><br>
<p>The remaining buildings from the mill occupy an 18 acre site and are mostly in ruins. The buildings include the main mill building, several lime kilns, a headrace wall, and an office building. The stone foundation of the mill&#39;s dam, which extends across the river into Washington County, Maryland, is also still part of the site. The mill site was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 5, 2014.</p><br>
<p>The North Bellingham Cemetery and Oak Hill Cemetery are a pair of adjacent cemeteries in Bellingham, Massachusetts. They are located on the north side of Hartford Avenue  a short way east of its junction with Interstate 495. The municipally-owned North Bellingham Cemetery is a roughly 1 acre plot, and is the oldest cemetery in the town, holding the graves of many of the town&#39;s founders. Its earliest recorded burial was in 1712, and the last was in 1888. Oak Hill Cemetery, a still-active cemetery, is a privately owned 2.5 acre parcel established in 1849. The two cemeteries combine to show the full range of changing funerary tastes from colonial days to the present.</p><br>
<p>The cemeteries were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.</p><br>
<p>The Oaks, also known as the Cooler House, is a historic plantation house located on Saint Helena Island near Frogmore, Beaufort County, South Carolina. It was built about 1855, and is a two-story, vernacular frame I-House. Edward L. Pierce chose The Oaks as his headquarters during the military occupation of St. Helena during the American Civil War. The Oaks was the center for military and agricultural activities on the island. On June 18, 1862, Ellen Murray, who had ten days earlier arrived from Pennsylvania, opened the Penn School for Freedmen in a back room of the house. The house also served as a hotel for military personnel from Port Royal, superintendents, and teachers.</p><br>
<p>It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.</p><br>
<p>The Panguitch Historic District comprises the center of Panguitch, Utah. The district encompasses the historical portion of the town, comprising 642 structures, of which 379 are considered contributing structures to the historic district. Most of the buildings in the district are residences built between 1890 and 1930, with a proportion of commercial buildings at the center of town. Most buildings are built in red brick, many using a distinctive deep red brick with soft edges that was produced near Panguitch between 1915 and 1940. Many houses are of a distinctive local style with a square plan and a pyramidal roof, incorporating projecting bays. The district also includes 1950s and 1960s ranch houses and motel courts. The town is laid out in a grid, conforming to usual practices in Utah&#39;s Mormon communities.</p><br>
<p>Notable buildings listed separately on the National Register of Historic Places include the Panguitch Carnegie Library, the Panguitch Social Hall and the William T., Jr., and Mary Isabell R. Owens House.</p><br>
<p>The Panguitch Historic District was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 16, 2006.</p><br>
<p>Colthurst&#39;s Bridge is situated 2.9 km north of Coachford village in County Cork, Ireland, 3.7 km east of Aghabullogue village, and is depicted on both the 1841 and 1901 surveyed OS maps. The bridge is located at the meeting point of the townlands of Carrignamuck, Clonmoyle East and Peake, the civil parishes of Aghabullogue and Magourney, and lies within the catholic parish of Aghabullogue.</p><br>
<p>The Ordnance Survey name book (c. 1840), refers to it as a bridge with four arches over the Delehinagh River, and named Coulthursts Bridge, as it was 12 chains (0.24 km) south-west of Mr Coulthursts property. The Delehinagh River meets with the Dripsey River a short distance to the right of the bridge.</p><br>
<p>The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork describes it as a road bridge with three arches, varying in shape and width, but generally semicircular. The bridge was said to possess dressed sandstone voussoirs, corbels on its piers which supported arch-centring during construction, and low pointed breakwaters on its upstream side. Pointed arches were an important feature of later Gothic Revival architecture, and said to be also present at Colthurst&#39;s Bridge.</p><br>

<p>The Endicott Hotel  is a historic hotel building at 1-3 South Main Street in Concord, New Hampshire. The four story brick building was completed in 1894 to a design by the regionally notable Damon Brothers architects. It was the citys first large commercial building south of Pleasant Street, and the first devoted exclusively to commercial activities . The building&#39;s most prominent feature is the oriel tower at the northwest corner, a signature element of Damon Brothers design. Its exterior has undergone only modest alterations.</p><br>
<p>The building&#39;s first owner was George Blanchard, under whose ownership it was used for commercial and office space. In 1908 it was purchased by John Butler Smith, who converted it to a hotel serving travelers arriving at the nearby railroad station, and gave the building its present name. In 1985 the upper floors were converted to apartments.</p><br>
<p>Mount Shungol  is an ultra-prominent summit  to the west of Lae, in Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea. It is in the Herzog Mountain Range and has an elevation of 2,752 m. The Buang people claim ownership to the top of Mount Shungol.</p><br>

<p>Dambi Peak 2,250 ft is located to the South West, Snake River along the South East base, Aria and Tuoima Creeks to the North West and Wampit River to the West. Omalia and Bupa Missions are West of Mount Shungol while Wago Mission is to the East.</p><br>
<h2>Endemic fauna</h2><br>
<h3>Albericus frog</h3><br>
<p>A new species of Albericus from Mt. Shungol has been discovered and inhabits lowland hill forest from the slopes of Mt. Shungol. Albericus is a genus of microhylid frogs endemic to New Guinea. These are small frogs with maximum body length around 27 mm. The genus name Albericus is the Latin form of Alberich, shape-shifting dwarf in the epic poem Nibelungenlied.</p><br>
<h3>Cophixalus frog</h3><br>
<p>The Cophixalus albolineatus whose habitat is the northwestern slope of Mount Shungol. Cophixalus (rainforest frogs or nursery frogs) is a genus of microhylid frogs. These are arboreal species with expanded toe-pads, endemic to Moluccan Islands, New Guinea and northeastern Queensland, Australia.</p><br>
<h3>Citrogramma</h3><br>
<p>Citrogramma is a genus of hoverfly of the insect family Syrphidae whose habitat is on Mount Shungol.</p><br>
<h3>Solanum</h3><br>
<p>Solanum is a large and diverse genus of flowering plants, including two food crops of the highest economic importance, the potato and the tomato. Hartleya Sleum (Stemonur.) is only known from Mount Shungol.</p><br>
<h3>Bird-of-paradise</h3><br>
<p>The brown sicklebill (Epimachus meyeri) is a dark blue and green bird-of-paradise with highly iridescent plumages, a sickle-shaped bill, pale blue iris and brown underparts. Mount Shungol and Mount Missim (above the towns of Wau and Bulolo) comprise a centre of endemism for many bird subspecies</p><br>
<p>Larchfield House is a residence in the townland of Carrignamuck, situated 2.7 km north of Coachford village. The National Inventory of Architectural Heritage describes it as built c. 1880, being a detached three-bay two-storey house, with gabled bays and a full height canted bay window. It is said to be typical of fashionable architectural style during the late nineteenth century.</p><br>
<p>This particular area within Carrignamuck townland is known as Larchfield, as indicated on both the 1842 and 1901 surveyed OS maps. The property was previously the residence and surgery of a local General Practitioner, and this is reflected in the crossroads adjoining the entrance being known as Doctors Crossroads&#39;.</p><br>
<p>Today, it is a private residence, and is not accessible to the public.</p><br>
<p>The Fairmont Opera House in Fairmont, Minnesota was built in 1901. Frank A. Day, editor of the Fairmont Sentinel, prodded local businessmen to establish an opera house starting in 1899. The Fairmont Opera House Company acquired the land in July, 1901 and began construction. The first grand opening was on February 11, 1902, with the opening show being "The Chaperone" performed by the Frank L. Perley Singing Comedians. From 1902 through 1912, it housed a variety of events such as traveling stock companies, local talent shows, graduation ceremonies, musicals, conventions, and political meetings. In 1912, W.L. Nicholas and Billy Hay became the managers, changed its name to the Haynic Theater, and began to show movies there. In 1926, the house was remodeled to accommodate live stock companies, road shows, and movies. Billy Hay died in 1926, and the opera house was rechristened the Nicholas Theatre, with a grand opening on July 27, 1927. The 1927 opening introduced an organ by Marr and Colton, complete with sound effects such as drums, a xylophone, car horns, horses&#39; hoof beats, cymbals, and other novelties. The Nicholas Theater was used exclusively as a movie house until 1980.</p><br>
<p>In July 1979, organizers led by Dr. Robert Arneson and his wife Mary began an effort to list the theater on the National Register of Historic Places, which was approved in February, 1980 by the Minnesota Historical Society. A nonprofit group bought the building for $51,000 in November 1980, and organized efforts to remodel and repair the building.</p><br>
<p>The John W. McCormack Post Office and Courthouse, formerly the United States Post Office, Courthouse, and Federal Building is a historic building at 5 Post Office Square in Boston, Massachusetts. The twenty-two story, 331 ft skyscraper was built between 1931 and 1933 to house federal courts, offices, and post office facilities. The Art Deco and Moderne structure was designed in a collaboration between the Supervising Architect of the United States Treasury Department and the Boston architectural firm of Cram and Ferguson. It occupies a city block bounded by Congress, Devonshire, Water, and Milk Streets, and has over 600,000 square feet of floor space. The exterior of the building is faced in granite from a variety of New England sources, as well as Indiana limestone.</p><br>
<p>The building is named for John W. McCormack, a long-serving Boston Congressman who was Speaker of the House from 1962 to 1971.</p><br>
<p>The building was designated a Boston Landmark by the Boston Landmarks Commission in 1998 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.</p><br>
<p>The Stairs Station Hydroelectric Power Plant was built in 1894-1895 in Big Cottonwood Canyon, about 8 mi southeast of Salt Lake City, Utah. The plant comprises the powerhouse, switchyard, penstocks, and a pipeline. A dam next to the site is associated with the Granite Power Plant farther downstream, and is part of neither historic district. The powerhouse is the only remaining building associated with the plant. It is an example of an intact high-head generating plant from the late 19th century.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The station was designed by Robert M. Jones for his Big Cottonwood Power Company at a cost of $325,000. In 1895 the company contracted to provide power to the Salt Lake and Ogden Gas and Electric Company, In 1897 the Big Cottonwood company was absorbed into the Union Light and Power Company in 1899. An operator&#39;s house was demolished on the site at an unknown date.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The power plant was originally built with four Pelton wheels, since replaced by a single Francis turbine capable of generating 1.2 megawatts. The station was designed in the Second Renaissance Revival style with two levels, the lower housing the generating equipment, the upper formerly housing switchgear.</p><br>
<p>Until the late 1950s water was impounded behind the Storm Mountain Dam, built in 1921 to replace an earlier dam about 2,500 ft above the station horizontally and 200 ft vertically. The dam is a low earthfill structure, about 10 ft to 20 ft high and 500 ft long, concrete faced on the upstream side. A 1,200 ft steel pipeline, now abandoned, connected the dam to a penstock that made the fall to the power plant. The penstock is about 1,750 ft long, made of.5 in steel, with a non-contributing standpipe at its head</p><br>

<p>The Granite Hydroelectric Power Station was built in 1896-1897 in Big Cottonwood Canyon, about 6 mi southeast of Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. The plant comprises the powerhouse, transformer house, a wooden conduit, penstocks, and a small dam. Like the Stairs Station upstream, it represents an intact high-head generating plant from the late 19th century.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The Granite Power Station was built beginning in 1896 by the Utah Power Company, owned by the Salt Lake City Railroad Company to provide power to the company&#39;s streetcar system. The station did not live up to expectations and was frequently out of service. After several changes of ownership, the plant passed into the hands of Utah Power and Light.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The powerhouse is a rectangular brick building on a concrete foundation, with extensive corbeling. The interior is a single room with two Pelton wheels flanking a generator, which replaced two older turbine-generator units. A work area in the station was powered by a 16 in Pelton wheel driving a belt, an unusual feature. The ceiling is a peaked assembly of steel beams with an arched brick infill. Water is supplied through a steel conduit and penstock system with a 450 ft head from the Stairs Station upstream. The dam, built in 1945, is part of neither historic district.</p><br>
<p>The transformer house is a plainer version of the power house. The operators residence is nearby, built using the same sand-colored brick with extensive corbeling and a hipped roof. Two other residences of wood frame construction stand nearby, added in the 1920s. The present operators residence is outside the historic district.</p><br>

<p>LeClaire Historic District is a historic district located in Edwardsville, Illinois. The community was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 8, 1979.</p><br>
<p>N. O. Nelson, the owner of the Nelson Manufacturing Company, established the town between 1890 and 1895 on donated land. Nelson planned the town to be an intentional community inspired by ideals such as Edward Bellamy&#39;s novel Looking Backward and the Ethical Culture movement. The community included an academy which offered free adult education and reading rooms, which was inspired by a self-culture hall in St. Louis.</p><br>
<p>Nelson also established a profit sharing system in the community. The system was derived from a concept used at the Maison LeClaire in Paris, from which the community took its name.</p><br>
<p>As LeClaire was an open community, its residents were not all company employees, nor were employees required to live in the community. However, the company provided utilities and public facilities to LeClaire residents. Journalist Nellie Bly compared the community favorably to Pullman in Chicago, and Ida Tarbell also wrote about the community.</p><br>
<p>Koh e Hindu  is a mountain of the Hindu Kush in Afghanistan. It is located in near Shakardara District and Mir Bacha Kot District, Kabul Province.</p><br>
<h2>Importance for Hindus</h2><br>

<p>Tombee Plantation is a historic plantation house located on Saint Helena Island near Frogmore, Beaufort County, South Carolina. It was built about 1790-1800, and is two-story, T-shaped frame dwelling. It is sheathed in clapboard and has a gable roof. It features a single-story front portico with four square columns and a two-story balustraded rear porch with six square columns on each floor. Along with Seaside Plantation, it is one of the few surviving antebellum plantation houses remaining on St. Helena Island. The Tombee Plantation property was divided into tracts during the days of the “Port Royal Experiment” in 1862. It remained in the hands of descendants of freed slaves until 1971.</p><br>
<p>It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.</p><br>
<p>Seaside Plantation, also known as the Edgar Fripp Plantation, is a historic plantation house located on Saint Helena Island near Beaufort, Beaufort County, South Carolina. It was built about 1795 to 1810, and is a two-story, frame dwelling in a transitional Georgian / Federal style. It features one-story hip roofed portico. Seaside was one of the plantations participating in the Port Royal Experiment and had as its labor superintendent Charles Pickard Ware . Charlotte Forten Grimké  also resided at Seaside Plantation. Along with Tombee Plantation, Seaside is one of only a few remaining antebellum plantation houses on St. Helena. Also on the property are the contributing original, brick-lined well, a clapboard shed, a large barn with clapboard siding and tin roof, and a round concrete and oyster shell silo.</p><br>
<p>It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.</p><br>
